It's hard enough to figure out how to make money blogging, but the first $1,000 you make blogging will some of the hardest earned cash of your life.
Blood. Sweat. Tears. More tears.
I vaguely remember bawling my eyes out the year I started my blog because my site crashed and I couldn't figure out how to get it back up.
My beloved husband had it running by morning. Bless his heart.
Unless you're a lucky overnight success, you'll likely have a lot of obstacles to overcome and a lot of time into your blog in the first year.
There is GOOD NEWS!
After you make your first $1,000, it becomes A LOT easier to start making money consistently from your blog.
When I say I make make money blogging, I get a lot of bewildered looks (especially from the older folks).
So YES, I make money blogging and it has a 100x better ROI than a 9-5 job for me.
That being said, I want to share part of my journey with you so you can learn from my mistakes but also figure out if what worked for me could possibly work for you!
This is a little bit out of my comfort zone because I'm being really transparent and giving you my "secrets of success" , but I want you to succeed.
I truly believe there is room for everyone in the online business world! The more the merrier! :)
There are SO MANY ways to make money blogging. The key is to find what has worked for the most successful bloggers, try it out yourself, and find what works for you.
My blogging journey has been marked by many failures, but I want to share what has really worked well for me!
If you've done any research, you know that Pinterest is your golden ticket to bucket loads of traffic to your site.
I tried to fight it at first because investing in your Pinterest power isn't cheap. So I waited, and waited.
I tried manually pinning around the clock and I kid you not was so tired and stressed out about it my hair started falling out.
Finally, I decided to bite the bullet and try Tailwind , a service that allows you to schedule your pins to Pinterest weeks out in advance and gives you in depth analytics on how your pins/posts are doing!
In just one month, my traffic went from nothing to 20,000 pageviews and has gone up at a rapid pace ever since!
Here's a picture to show the surge in traffic after just ONE month of using Tailwind as a VERY beginner.
Sometimes you have to spend money to make money, y'all.
Tailwind is t he bees knees. The cat's meow.
Through my link you can get a free month of Tailwind to try it out yourself if you're curious or have been toying around with the idea of investing in it!
Posting consistent, quality content keeps people coming back for more.
Unfortunately, consistently posting is easier said than done, because most beginner bloggers have a job, family, and life!
There's a sick kid, a house that's being neglected because of time spent blogging, a husband that's digging from the bottom of a dirty laundry basket.
So then the blog would take a back seat and I would only post when I had some free time, which is... never.
Consequently, I would end up writing blog posts at midnight, when my tank was long past empty and my posts reflected that.
My husband and I decided to divide and conquer. He took on more household tasks and watches our son for an hour or two when I need to write new content so that I can produce consistent, quality content.
This seemed to help my stats and keep new visitors returning to read more!
I spent a LONG time THINKING about creating my own product and that is my only regret, that instead of thinking I started doing a lot earlier.
Once I created my own digital product, specifically, my Budget Bundle , my sales really took off.
Creating your own product is great for a few reasons:
Additionally, you can have an affiliate program for your product, incentivizing others to market your product, which means your reach will extend even further!
SendOwl is a great service for managing the delivery of digital products and you can also manage your affiliate program with SendOwl!
I HIGHLY recommend creating multiple products your first year blogging.
If you're a busy mama like me, you know that you don't have hours on end to spend on your blog every single day! When I first started blogging, I had more spare time on my hands to work on it. Now, I have a young child that requires my care 24/7.
I knew I needed to change my strategy, because I couldn't keep going the way I was forever. This is where affiliate marketing comes into the picture!

Simply put, affiliate marketing is a way to earn income by promoting a product or service and in exchange receiving a commission.
Second to creating my own product, focusing on affiliate marketing has been profitable for me.
However, when I first started, I did it all wrong. I would say yes to everything and anyone who approached me about promoting their product- which was NOT the right thing to do.
Once I became very picky about what I promoted and only focused on a few products/services I truly believe in (and personally USE), my affiliate marketing income went up.
I make most of my affiliate income through Bluehost , the hosting service I use for my blog, so it's not even related to money management, and that's okay!
If you're lost at where to start with affiliate marketing, don't worry, I was too! I took an online course from a blogger who earns over $50k per month from affiliate marketing and implemented what I learned immediately! Soon after, my affiliate marketing income skyrocketed! I'd highly recommend her course !
What's in it for me? That is the question that every viewer is going to ask themselves when deciding whether to click on your post, pin, or subscribe to your email list.
Once I started offering valuable opt-in incentives and learning more about my audience, I saw my email list subscribers climb dramatically.
The key is to give away a GREAT product for free, like a product that you think you should be selling because of all the work you put into it.
Then, make something EVEN BETTER and market it to those who got your freebie!
When you offer and deliver an incredible free product, your audience will trust that anything they purchase from you will be great quality and valuable to them.
Email marketing has never been my strong suite if I'm being honest. I hate sending emails because I feel like I'm bothering people and being spammy!
I've had to realize that if people sign up for my email list, they WANT to hear from me, and if they don't, they can unsubscribe!
If I'm being honest, it's hard dealing with "followers" and "subscribers" because it's hard not to take criticism or when people unfollow you personally .
Once I got past that, I decided that I needed to upgrade from Mailchimp (the free email service provider I was using), and switch to Convertkit .
I spent countless hours trying to sort, segment, and figure out how to set up an opt-in incentive with MailChimp. After much frustration, I finally decided to switch to Convertkit , and I watched my list grow the fastest it ever had.
You can see my growth from when I first started with Convertkit and after one year of using Convertkit.
My subscribers grew by over 4k, and part of that time I wasn't super active on my blog!
Here's what I love about Convertkit:
It's user friendly and worth every. single. penny.
Once I started focusing on what my audience wanted from me and not necessarily what I wanted to give them, I started to make money!
What could I create that would bring value to the life of my audience?
This proved to be harder than I thought to figure out and it took quite a bit of trial and error.
Some of my opt-ins flopped. A few of my products hardly anyone bought.
But, I kept going. I kept producing.
Once a product takes off or users respond well to an opt-in, you can pin point what is valuable to your audience.
This takes patience and a willingness to fail a few times before getting it right!
So now you're wondering, well what's the best way to make money blogging?
The truth is that there really isn't any "right" answer. It will depend on your audience, your personality, writing style, and creativity.
For me, I'm not a very sales-y person.I promote a few products I believe in, but it's still hard for me to ask people to use my links!
Yes, I'm running a business that I pour a lot of time and effort into, but for some reason I still feel guilty! It's easier for me to promote my own products!
There isn't a magic formula, but I learned a lot by reading about other bloggers journey's and taking their advice!
If you are interested in blogging, I so so encourage you to give it a shot . I thought about it for a long time before I started, and my only regret is not starting earlier!
Trust me, if I can do this, anyone can!
I'm the most non-techy millennial out there and I figured it out by God's good grace ;)
If you have a dream of turning your blog into a. profitable business, I'd highly recommend using Bluehost for your hosting.
Through my link you get a free domain name AND Wordpress for free when you sign up with Bluehost! Woohoo, freebies!
Yes, I make money blogging, and yes, you can too!
I hope this is informative if you've always wondered how in the heck bloggers make money and encouraging to you if you're just starting (or want to start) blogging!
Blogging has been an incredible creative outlet for me and a way to share my personal finance knowledge with others.
Ultimately that is my goal- to serve others!
"But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you." 1 Samuel 12:24
