This post will detail 11 reasons why I switched from traditional WordPress themes to Divi by Elegant Themes. Divi is a visual site builder that comes with a lifetime membership and hundreds of pre-made blog page, post, shop, and sales page templates!
If you're anything like me, it's super frustrating when you buy a WordPress theme only to find it isn't exactly what you were looking for. Hours of code later, you're still getting nowhere. After switching to Divi, I'll never go back to a traditional WordPress theme. Here's why!
This is meant to be an in depth review and explanation of why I switched from traditional WordPress themes to the Divi Builder by Elegant Themes.
Divi is a huge theme dashboard that essentially gives you the option to customize your site exactly how you want it (for any kind of niche) by building a site using a block-style system.
No more coding, submitting theme support tickets, and being limited in your design to the theme you purchased.
With Divi's modules, you can build pages, posts, landing pages, and shops for literally any kind of business under the sun!
While there are many reasons that Divi is the best option for creating a beautiful website, these are the top 11 reasons why I'm glad I switched to Divi and the Divi builder from traditional WordPress themes!
The worst part about purchasing a website theme is that although you can get it to look how you want, I've found that whenever I install it, there are always things I want to change!
Of course this isn't that big of a deal, but if you're anything like me, website coding is not something you'd write on your resume. I HATE coding.
Before Divi, I would spend hours researching and watching videos to try and figure out how to make my theme look the way I want with a code, and try not to ruin my website or have it crash in the process!
Instead, add, delete and move elements around on the front end of your website. No coding and no confusing back end options.
With Divi, there is absolutely no coding required , everything is built using a "block style" system, that is completely compatible with Gutenburg by WordPress.
The Divi visual builder allows you to edit your website visually in real time, instead of building a page or post and having to preview. Instead, while editing you instantly see the results.
With the Divi builder , you have complete control over every aspect of your website design.
The Divi builder is best explained by watching the video below. It's hard to put into words how the drag and drop block style system works!
Over 800 pre-made website layouts come packaged right inside of Divi for free. Brand new layouts are added weekly along with royalty free photos, icons, and illustrations.
This is a priceless feature of Divi. They add a new layout pack to your library at least weekly.
If you aren't comfortable building pages and posts for your website from scratch, Divi comes with over 800 free layout packs for all kinds of pages, posts, industries & services!
Each layout is designed for a specific niche, here are three examples of pre-made layout packs designed for a specific niche, but they can really be customized to fit any niche if you like the layout!
The layout packs have been so helpful for me when designing various pages on my blog!
If you need help with the DIvi builder or creating pages, blog posts, or any of the modules, Divi has a tutorial for it!
In addition to a blog, they also have a YouTube channel along with 24/7 chat and support for theme tutorials and documentation.
Divi is completely compatible with Gutenburg! You can use both (my personal preference), or just use Divi. When writing my blog posts, I'll write the actual text and content using Gutenburg, and then I'll use the Divi Builder visual editor to edit in real time.
When you go to write a post or create a new page, you'll be given the option to use either the default editor or Divi Builder.
Because Divi is completely compatible with Gutenburg, you can easily toggle back and forth between the two. In other words, you don't have to pick one or the other- you can have the best of both worlds! :)
Along with your Divi membership, you'll get the option to install the Extra theme, this is not a separate purchase, to be clear. You pay for Divi once (if you choose the lifetime membership) and get EVERYTHING I discuss in this blog post.
Basically, Extra takes the Divi Builder framework and extends its advanced Drag & Drop builder power to work on your homepage and categories with a brand new set of post-based modules.
Extra comes with a new set of Divi Builder modules built specifically for the needs of bloggers and online publications.
The picture right is a sample of a homepage design built using the Extra theme framework. You can easily duplicate this exact design for your homepage, as Divi provides the "file" you need to make your homepage identical to the demo site.
Additionally, even if you have the Extra theme installed, you still get to use the Divi builder for all other pages (other than home and category pages).
When creating layouts from scratch, you can save different features and parts of your layout to your Divi library. This way, it's easy to duplicate a section or page you've created that you want to re-use on a different page or post.
You also have the option to make these items global.
When an item is made "global" in the Divi library, it's mirrored across all the pages you add it to.
Whenever this global element is updated, the updates are automatically pushed to each instance of the global module! If you have a repeated module or section on your site, simply make it global.
If this sounds really confusing, don't worry. Divi offers TONS of tutorials and explanations that walk you through all the features of Divi.
With Divi, you can build beautiful landing pages and sales pages from scratch, or use the presets in the library (800+ landing page templates)!
This way, you won't ever have to pay for a service like Leadpages, because you can literally build a page from scratch with simple drag and drop features and endless customization options!
Before using Bloom, I just simply created my pop up forms and other forms in Convertkit.
While these are fine to use, once I had the unlimited design options that Divi's Bloom plugin offers, my conversion rates skyrocketed.
Here is a high converting opt in form that I created with Bloom:
Again, Bloom comes with Divi, you do not have not purchase is separately!
Additionally, my favorite features of Bloom include:
Bloom makes it really easy to target your audience and customize your form to certain page & post types.
Just like split testing is available for the Divi Bloom plugin, split testing is available across tons of different areas of your site.
With Divi, you broadcast different versions of your page to different visitors and figure out which version is most effective at converting your unique goals using powerful stats and insights.
You can test different headlines, colors, and layouts, and Divi will tell you which ones perform the best!
Once the test is over, you simply select the highest performing variation.
Super simple and super slick!
Divi offers 24/7 chat support in addition to the hundreds of online tutorials!
It is always frustrating when you buy a new theme, and then constantly have to submit support tickets for various things!
In contrast to traditional WordPress themes, Divi offers around the clock support for their users. I have chatted with their support team multiple times and it's a seamless, efficient process.
When you join Divi, your one license allows you unlimited users and unlimited websites.
In other words, if you have clients that need website building done, you don't pay for each website you build. Or, if you have multiple websites yourself, you can install Divi on all of them, no additional licenses needed.
This sets Divi apart from a lot of other website building platforms and other theme sellers!
You can join Divi for $89/year or have lifetime access & membership to Divi for a $249 one time fee!
