Today I want to share how you can make money blogging in 2020. The first $1k I made as a blogger was the hardest money I ever earned. It didn't come without lots of blood, sweat, and tears.
However, I can now say blogging has been a huge blessing for me as a busy mom!
Some days I worked 3 hours straight on my blog during nap time and other days I don't touch it at all except for 30 minutes strung together.
This post will be a review of my year, detailing what worked for me and what did not work for me, in hopes that you can learn something too!
I frequently read these type of posts from other bloggers and I've always been able to learn/take away something and implement in into my own strategy.
No, obviously every blog is not the same and what works for one person might not work for another.
However, what worked for me this year is consistent with what many of the big name bloggers recommend!
Blogging hacks & advice:
Many of the things that I'v learned blogging this year that worked well are ideas/strategies I'm still trying to improve!
That's the thing about blogging, there is ALWAYS something to learn or a new strategy to try.
I'll have new strategies to try as I enter yet another very busy season in life, we are welcoming another baby in April 2020!
Next year I'm sure my blogging year review will look very different!
Instead of focusing on promoting every single product that I like or that has worked well for me, I decided to focus just a few.
Once I did this, I was able to stay on top of my affiliate marketing game and be a lot more effective at my promotion techniques.

Figure out what your audience wants from you. That is gold.
The best way to figure this out is to ask them and evaluate what your most popular posts (and products) are.
The truth is you don't have to reinvent the wheel and constantly be coming up with new, unique products. Instead, evaluate your top posts and top product.
Do they have anything in common? Are they on the same subject? If so, take it and run with it. Create more products centered around that theme/idea.
I dedicated a good chunk of time to learning the ins and outs of Conver t kit , the best email service providers for bloggers.
The ability to easily set up automations and sequences for your opt-in-freebies makes Convertkit far better that it's counterparts.
I created new opt in freebies that were centered around my most popular products. You want your opt in freebie to be ALMOST as good as the actual product you're selling, you want people to be astounded they are getting it for free!
Nearly 70% of my blog traffic comes from Pinterest , so I place my weekly Pinterest scheduling at the top of my priority list.
The key to success on Pinterest is posting relevant content, posting when your audience is most engaged, and having irresistible pins.
This is what I use for Pinterest to make my life easier:
- Tailwind - This pin scheduling tool pins to Pinterest for me all day long at the times my audience is most engaged based on analytical data. One month after signing up for Tailwind, my blog traffic increased over 525%. Through my link, give it a try and get one month free!
Pictured above is a snapshot of my site traffic after starting to use Tailwind in September 2018.
- IvoryMix Stock Photos - The images you use for your pins have to be absolutely stunning otherwise you will not get traffic. I'm not going to sugar coat it. I tried getting away with using only free images, but as I got further into my blogging journey is was nearly impossible to find high quality images that hadn't been used by tons of other bloggers. I use IvoryMix stock photos designed by Kayla Butler for my pin images. She sends me hundreds of photos every single month!

- Canva - Canva is the online program that I use to create my pins. I could rave about Canva all day long. It's intuitive, has tons of free templates, and you can easily save templates for your pins. This way, all you have to do is change out the text and image when you create a new blog post. Canva is what I've used from the beginning of my blogging journey.
Up until now, I've purchased theme after theme depending on what suited my fancy at the time. However, it seemed I was always having new ideas for my blog layout & customization, so I'd often have to change themes to try and find something that was close to what I envisioned.
The only problem? I always ended up disappointed because no theme could do all the things I wanted it too, at least not without hours of coding!
Then I stumbled upon Divi and I kid you not, it has saved me HOURS & HOURS of work.
Divi is a super unique website building software that allows you to have control over literally every single area of your website. You can build pages, posts, content areas, etc., from scratch, or you can use pre-made layouts and templates from Divi.
I was wasting a lot of time browsing for themes and trying to figure out how to code certain things into my website. So purchasing Divi and making the investment was 1000x worth it. Can't recommend Divi enough. Read more about why I love Divi and learn more about it's features.

My mind tends to have 10 tabs open at once and I click around from tab to tab all day long.
This doesn't work well for efficiency purposes. Because of this, I have to be very conscious of when I'm doing a bunch of things at once but not really getting anything done.
Yes, there is a lot to do every day as a blogger. However, trying to do them all at once is incredibly inefficient and will leave you feeling burnt out and drained.
I'm still not very good at abiding by a set schedule/plan partly because I have to be flexible as a mom, and partly because I feel like I never have enough time!
This is a work in progress, but when I have NO plan and try to coast along, it typically doesn't work very well.
My first trimester of pregnancy was extremely exhausting and I felt incredibly unmotivated to do anything.
It was basically just survival mode.
As a result, I didn't work as much on my blog and it showed. My traffic and income went down during my first trimester of pregnancy!
